Více o knize

The Early Iron Age and Early Archaic period in ancient Greece is crucial for understanding social transformation. Recent research has shifted away from viewing the development towards “the polis” as linear and uniform, highlighting significant regional variability as a key characteristic. This volume originates from a conference in Tübingen in December 2018, focusing on diverse developments within a comparatively small area—Attica, the Peloponnese, and central Greece. It critically examines the historical regions that become clearer in later periods, emphasizing the definition and emergence of these regions. The authors explore the intertwined processes of social formation during this time. Eleven contributions provide insights from historical and archaeological perspectives, addressing topics such as the emergence of burial grounds utilized by all societal segments, perceptions of territoriality, settlement history in Attica, the rise of Sparta as a regional power, and the socio-cultural evolution of Phocis and eastern Locris. Additionally, the economic history of Archaic Greece is discussed. Collectively, these works offer fresh perspectives on the development of early Greek societies.
