Diana O’Toole has her life perfectly planned: marriage by thirty, children by thirty-five, and a successful career in the competitive art auction world. As an associate specialist at Sotheby’s, she’s on the verge of a promotion, especially with a high-profile client deal in the works. Her boyfriend, Finn, a surgical resident, is expected to propose during their romantic getaway to the Galápagos, just before her thirtieth birthday. However, a virus that seemed distant suddenly disrupts her plans when Finn must stay behind to help at the hospital. He encourages her to go alone, despite her reservations. Once in the Galápagos, everything goes wrong. Her luggage is lost, Wi-Fi is scarce, and their hotel is closed due to the pandemic, leaving her stranded on a quarantined island. Isolated and out of her comfort zone, Diana begins to connect with a local family, particularly a teenager who confides in her despite parental suspicions. Amidst the stunning backdrop where Darwin developed his theory of evolution, Diana reflects on her relationships and choices, questioning whether she will return home unchanged or transformed.
