Set in 1891 Bronx, the story follows Virginia Loftin, an aspiring novelist and the most ambitious of four sisters. After her first love, Charlie, proposes to another, Ginny retreats into her writing, crafting an idealized narrative. Her journey takes a turn when she attends a vibrant salon hosted by her brother's friend, John Hopper, where she finds inspiration and romance. As she navigates the complexities of her artistic ambitions and familial ties, Ginny faces a choice between her dreams and the realities of love and society, revealing the high stakes of her pursuits.
