The story explores themes of friendship, acceptance, and personal growth through the relationship between Skye and Joey, a boy with Down syndrome who adores her. Initially resistant and frustrated by his affection, Skye's perspective shifts when Joey's horse, Bucky, becomes injured before the county fair.
