Exploring the themes of the grotesque and tragic, this study analyzes Prospère Mérimée's Tamango and Rodrigue Ndong's La journée du salopard, focusing on the slave and arms trades. Utilizing Zima's sociological approach, the analysis reveals how these texts reflect the political ideologies intertwined with Western and African narratives. By employing grotesque elements, both authors highlight the harsh realities and social crises faced by the continent, emphasizing the urgent need for storytelling to convey these complex issues.
