The Heart of a Woman

Set against the backdrop of 1960s New York, the narrative follows Maya Angelou as she navigates life with her son, Guy, among a vibrant community of black artists and writers. Immersed in this environment, she grapples with her friends' fixation on the white world while finding her voice through writing and singing at iconic venues like the Apollo Theatre. As she becomes increasingly involved in the civil rights movement, Angelou organizes events for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and takes on the role of Northern Coordinator for Martin Luther King Jr.
