The Politics of Language in Romantic Literature

Exploring the interplay between Romantic literature and philological theory, this study revises the conventional understanding of how these fields influenced each other in the late-eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. It highlights the importance of philology in shaping the intellectual and political landscapes that informed Romantic authors, suggesting that their works cannot be fully understood without acknowledging this connection. The examination of both canonical and non-canonical materials reveals new insights into the Romantic consciousness.
