Imagining the Dead in British Literature and Culture, 17901848

Exploring the portrayal of the deceased as a collective in the early nineteenth century, this book analyzes how Romantic and Victorian authors, such as Wordsworth and Dickens, used their influence over the conceptualization of the dead to engage with social and political reform. It presents an interdisciplinary approach to Death Studies, highlighting the interplay between literary representation and societal attitudes towards burial practices, while also addressing shifts in aesthetics, psychology, ethics, and political thought during the period.
