However, feeling like foreigners in their own land, they chose to return to America, where they achieved unexpected success. With the encouragement of his loving wife, the author became a leading advocate for intraocular lens implantation during cataract surgeries in Massachusetts, despite facing opposition from established Boston ophthalmologists. His growing reputation at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary led to his recruitment in Greenfield, Massachusetts, where he received a deferment from serving in Vietnam. While gaining prominence in ophthalmology, he remained connected to his roots, periodically visiting his alma mater to share his knowledge with younger colleagues.
