Ike's Go-To Guy, Paul T. Carroll: An Extraordinary Husband, Father, Soldier, and Special Assistant to General of the Army and President Dwight D. Eise

Více o knize

Ike’s “Go-To Guy” recounts the life of Paul T. Carroll, as remembered by his son, Bob. The narrative is enriched with family photographs, personal stories, letters, telegrams, and historic documents from the early 1900s through WWII and beyond. Paul Carroll's journey began at West Point and included Army assignments across the U.S., Iceland, and France. He served in Patton’s Third Army, earning the Combat Infantryman Badge, two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, and the Legion of Merit, gaining respect as an outstanding combat commander. Later at the Pentagon, Lieutenant Colonel Carroll worked under Army Chiefs Marshall, Eisenhower, and Bradley. His two-year tenure with General Eisenhower fostered a relationship of mutual respect, leading to Carroll being called upon for various critical tasks after Eisenhower left the Pentagon. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, he became Eisenhower’s “Go-to Guy,” instrumental in establishing NATO’s military headquarters in Paris, planning Eisenhower’s trip to Korea, and organizing the White House staff. Tragically, Carroll died of a heart attack at 44, leaving behind his wife, Ruth, and three sons. This book captures both his significant contributions and the poignant story of his family.
