In contemporary Florence, within the vibrant world of commerce and craftsmanship, particularly in the textile industry, Boccaccio revitalizes one of the highest themes of chivalric narrative: "love and death." However, he approaches it from a different, emotionally deeper perspective, through a series of five tales featuring seven heroines from the bourgeois and even working classes. Love does not emerge from gilded courtly or chivalric ideals, nor from enchanting contemplations; it blossoms from the very gestures of artisanal labor or from encounters in childhood games that erase any class distinctions. The heroes become relatable figures for humble readers, allowing them to speak a more immediate language, rich in resonance for the common person.
