'As I Am' is a book about friendship. Sky is a cute tabby cat, and Kia is a child who is nonbinary. Together, they share unconditional love. They play silly games and give comfort through fears and loneliness. Kai does not identify as a boy or a girl. Being nonbinary had been challenging, as all of Kai's friends are cisgender. Some kids don't understand them, but Kai knows who they are. They are wonderful just as they are and they are loved! With time, Kai has made a dear friend who accepts them as they are. And every day, when Kai comes home from school, Sky is there. With purrs, and snuggles. Each time, Kai feels loved and seen.
