Více o knize
Pearl Zane Grey, born on January 31, 1872, in Zanesville, Ohio, developed an early passion for history, fishing, baseball, and writing, which fueled his later success. An avid reader of adventure stories, he penned his first story, "Jim of the Cave," at fifteen, only to face harsh criticism from his father. Alongside his brother, he pursued fishing and baseball, even attracting a baseball scout's attention. He accepted a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania to study dentistry, where he excelled in sports but struggled academically, preferring outdoor activities and writing. After graduating in 1896, he opened a dental practice in New York, but his true ambition was to write. He dedicated his evenings to writing, leading to his first published article, "A Day on the Delaware," in 1902. His breakthrough came with the Western novel "The Heritage of the Desert" in 1910, followed by his best-known work, "Riders of the Purple Sage," in 1912, which established him as a household name. Grey's association with Hollywood began when the rights to "Riders" were sold for $2,500 in 1916. Despite the publishing industry's struggles during the 1930s, he continued to thrive, avoiding stock market investments and enjoying consistent royalty income. Zane Grey passed away on October 23, 1939, in Altadena, California, and was buried in Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania.
