Rabíndranáth Thákur Knihy

Dvě sbírky básní v próze - Zahradník a Dárek z lásky.
Ke čtvrtstoletému výročí smrti nejznámějšího z moderních indických básníků (1861-1941) vychází v sličném špalíčku nové vydání výboru z jeho milostné poezie, jejž sám r. 1913 uspořádal a přeložil do angličtiny a jenž došel vřelého přijetí u čtenářů celého světa. U nás vyšel dokonce ve dvou překladech a v jednom z nich sedmkrát.
Výbor z bengálské duchovní lyriky, původně autorem přeložený do angličtiny a r. 1913 poctěný Nobelovou cenou. Nový český překlad se proti prvnímu překladu F. Baleje přidržuje po formální stránce Thákurova anglického převodu, v němž bengálský básník, povídkář, romanopisec a dramatik nahradil písňovou, rýmovanou a rytmicky sevřenou formu originálu prózou, ale obsahově se obrací k původním bengálským předlohám ze sbírek Gítáňdžali, Naibedja,Gítimálja, Khejá, Sišu, Čaitáli a Kalpaná. pozn.: Pevná, kožená vazba s kartonovým přebalem.
Meditativní báseň v próze, klasické dílo slavného bengálského básníka, spisovatele a filozofa.

Nový překlad dvou traktátů ze souboru nábožensko-filozofických úvah Sádhaná. Traktáty jsou věnovány otázce zla a lásky, pojednané v širším kontextu úvah o smyslu lidské existence, koexistenci nekonečného a konečného. Sádhaná představuje výběr z přednášek přibližujících svět indického myšlení, které Thákur proslovil v letech 1912–1913 v Anglii a USA. Český čtenář má zde šanci se seznámit s novým překladem dvou úvah-traktátů tohoto výběru.
Prózy (Profesor, Zrak, Zborcené hnízdo, Rásmani a její syn, Čtyři obrazy, Dvě sestry, Poslední slovo) o problémech uzavírání sňatků a rodinných vztahů ukazují autora jako citlivého pozorovatele, zaujatého psychologickými aspekty těchto sociálních jevů, jako ukazatele moderního způsobu myšlení.
Jeden z kratších románů nejvýznamnějšího představitele moderní indické literatury (1861-1941), jemně vykreslená epizoda lásky mladého právníka a básníka Amita a stejně půvabné jako vzdělané dívky Lábanje.

První svazek výboru z díla známého bengálského básníka (1862–1951) obsahuje některé z básní 23 sbírek a dvě veršovaná dramata (Čitrángada a Vůz času). Tímto výborem jsou čtenáři seznamováni s nejlepšími autorovými pracemi od roku 1883 (Jitřní zpěvy) až do posledního roku jehoživota (V rekonvalescenci, V den narozenin). Výrazovými prostředky je Thákurova poezie přístupná evropskému čtenáři. Starší překlady byly pořizovány z angličtiny i z bengálštiny. Báseň Vládce duší přeložil J. B. Čapek a Ivo Fišer.

Román Gora je kritikou úzkoprsého sektářství reformistických náboženských obcí, kterou básník vyhrocuje v sociálních rozporech moderní indické společnosti a v neslučitelnosti demokratických idejí s tradicí kast.
V této lásce nachází hlavní poselství svého života a odkazu.

Stray Birds (1916) is a collection of poems by Rabindranath Tagore. Translated into English by Tagore after he received the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature, Stray Birds is a powerful collection of short poems by a master of Indian literature. "Stray birds of summer come to my window to sing and fly away. And yellow leaves of autumn, which have no songs, flutter and fall there with a sigh." The poems of Stray Birds are a masterclass in clarity and concision. Like birds themselves, they flutter across the sky of the page before passing beyond the limit of sight. In prayer, in celebration, and in evocations of the natural world, Tagore comes as close to the truth as possible, catching a glimpse before it can fly away forever: "Let me live truly, my Lord, so that death to me become true." In plainspoken language, Tagore gives voice to the soul. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Rabindranath Tagore's Stray Birds is a classic of Indian literature reimagined for modern readers.

Red Oleanders, a powerful and moving play, is the story of Nandini, a girl who recognises no social barriers and taboos and who disregards them in her search for happiness. Nandini is one of those individuals who bring out the best in human nature. Entering a town where men are enslaved to mine gold, she makes them aware of their bondage and creates in them a desire to be free. Her symbol, the red oleander, can be variously interpreted as frailty or as the red badge of courage. But Nandini escapes being defined as just a symbol. The tremendous verve with which Tagore invests her, makes her a real living personality, and her death is actually a rebirth for the gold diggers. - from the back cover

What drew Coleman Barks to bring his genius to the Gitangili of Rabindranath Tagore? Speaking of these “Song Offerings,” Barks, known and loved for his exquisite transmissions of Rumi, opens us up to the heart of the Indian mystic, Tagore, whose writings have touched poets throughout the world, among them W.B. Yeats, Hart Crane, Robert Frost, and Ezra Pound. In his introduction, Coleman Barks explains what inspired him to recreate the 1913 English translation. “I am trying to rephrase his insights in language that does not cloud their brilliance. Tagore’s mysticism feels very simple and abundant (Yeat’s adjective for it), like Wordsworth’s like Whitman’s … It is into that more current idiom that I am trying to place in Tagore’s songs.”
