It was the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway that created Cleethorpes as a seaside resort in Victorian times. It aquired the entire seafront land; beautifying the Central Promenade for quiet leisure and contemplation, whilst developing the North Promenade for the fun, thrills and excitement.
