This documentary history seeks to support the study and teaching of the subject of Irish migrants by using a range of contemporary documents, including extracts from parliamentary papers, social surveys, newspapers, letters and reminiscences.

Focusing on the "New Police" in Cambridge, this study offers a detailed analysis of early-Victorian policing, challenging traditional Whig and early revisionist Marxist viewpoints. It presents a more complex understanding of the social and criminal justice landscape of the time, making it a valuable resource for undergraduate courses in Victorian local history.
