A lady of gentle birth, Scottish, young, and penniless, possessing strong psychic powers, devotes her services to solving uncanny mysteries or 'laying of ghosts.' Left destitute by her uncle's death and with no other employment opportunities, Shiela Crerar runs an ad in a London newspaper offering her unusual services. Her adventures take her from the streets of 1920s Edinburgh to the romantic Scottish Highlands, where she uses her "sight" and her knowledge of local lore and history to confront ghosts, demons, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures.
