Horatio Holmes si od svých dnů na základní škole Longtides ušel dlouhou cestu. Od té doby se naučil hrát na bugle (špatně), pracoval jako tvůrce úloh pro soutěžní matematiku a dokonce hrál v Hamletovi postavu, po níž byl pojmenován. V jiných ohledech je stále stejný: vášnivý čtenář, bojovník za spravedlnost a někdo, kdo má rád své hot dogy s hořčicí. Jeho psaní je často plné hravosti, ale také hlubokého zájmu o spravedlnost.
