Sade vytvořil několik desítek povídek, za jeho života však vyšlo pouze osm z nich. Většinou mají formu krátkých rozverných anekdotek v lehkém tónu a objevují se v nich podobné rozmanité motivy jako v novelách — nevěrní manželé a záletné manželky, sodomie, pokrytectví zhýralých kněží (ne nadarmo Sade vystudoval jezuitskou kolej) či potměšilé prznění nevinnosti —, pouze jejich tón je zde tlumenější.
