Volatile markets and the increasing individualization of products demand greater adaptability in manufacturing, leading to continuous adaptation processes and a heightened need for commissioning throughout the life cycle of production machines. Currently, commissioning is complex, highly specific, and relies on skilled personnel for many manual operations due to machines' inflexibility. This rigidity stems from hierarchical control structures and incompatibility between subsystems. This work enhances the flexibility and interoperability of fluid power manufacturing systems by applying service-oriented architecture principles to decouple rigid structures and fixed dependencies, facilitating self-organized and largely automated commissioning. Machines are modularized into independent Industrie 4.0 (I4.0) components modeled after the Asset Administration Shell concept. These components encapsulate the properties and functionalities necessary for commissioning, accessible via communication interfaces. The commissioning process is coordinated decentrally by all I4.0 components, each managing its commissioning sequence while considering system states and dependencies. A retrofit approach allows for seamless integration of personnel, enabling machine-guided commissioning for both intelligent and conventional machines, including passive components. The proof-of-concept is validated on hydraulic and pneumatic systems, demonstrating imp
