Middlesex mě překvapil tím nejlepším možným způsobem. Od první stránky až po poslední jsem se ani chvíli nenudila a kniha si po celou dobu udržela moje nadšení. Nejvíc mě bavilo, jak Jeffrey Eugenides propojuje osudy svých postav se skutečnými historickými událostmi a osobnostmi. Díky tomu příběh působí živě a autenticky. Překvapily mě také některé dramatické a akční pasáže, které mají téměř filmový spád a dodávají románu nečekanou energii. Přestože se kniha dotýká řady kontroverzních a tabuizovaných témat, nikdy jsem neměla pocit, že by ji definovala pouze ona. Middlesex je především výborně odvyprávěný příběh, který dokáže být zároveň rozsáhlou rodinnou ságou, historickým románem i osobním vyprávěním o hledání vlastní identity. Je to jedna z těch knih, které se čtou překvapivě snadno navzdory své délce. A rozhodně mě přesvědčila, že si od Jeffreyho Eugenidese chci přečíst i další knihy.
