This study focuses on Sri Lanka, an emerging economy in the Asia Pacific region, characterized by its unique geography, political history, and social and environmental issues. In many developing economies, sustainability disclosure is not mandatory, as economic development often takes precedence due to political policies and goals. Sri Lanka is navigating the challenges of long-term strategic development as it aims to transition to an upper-middle-income country following decades of civil conflict. Key challenges include boosting investments, managing human capital, realigning public spending, and enhancing the private sector's role through increased productivity and exports. The author chose a country-specific approach to provide a deeper understanding of the research topic. The study examines how boards of directors and managers perceive corporate social responsibility (CSR) within the Sri Lankan market, analyzing the relationship between CSR, corporate reputation, and financial performance. While similar studies have focused on developed countries, this research offers insights from a developing nation's perspective. Additionally, the perception of CSR is assessed among managers at various levels within the top 50 firms listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange.
