This work captures the wisdom, reflections, and stories of Indigenous Elder Naanii Nora from the Haida Nation, who lived from 1902 to 1997. Initiated by Charlie Bellis and supported by Maureen McNamara and community volunteers, the project is compiled by Jenny Nelson, offering a glimpse into Nora's life and family. It chronicles her journey from a spirited girl who loved to sing and lead her brothers to tales of her father born in a canoe and her childhood experiences of berry picking and canning. The narratives encompass themes of family, place, seasonal changes, and significant life transitions like marriage. Additionally, it reflects the broader historical context of changing political relationships between Canada and the Haida people, enriching the personal story with cultural significance. Nora's vibrant voice resonates throughout, offering advice shaped by her experiences: "I like to give anybody advice because when you're young you don't know nothing on this world." This collection embodies her spirit—her joy, humor, spirituality, resourcefulness, and love for children and music—highlighting her enduring impact on the community.
