From birth, we are inundated with a multitude of expectations imposed by families, communities, and society, forcing us into predefined boxes based on race, gender, sexuality, and other identity facets. These boxes can feel like shackles, especially when they don't align with our true selves, yet many continue to conform in pursuit of acceptance and validation. Actor and activist Brandon Kyle Goodman, a Black nonbinary queer individual, intimately understands the struggle of concealing one's authentic identity. In his work, he encourages readers to reflect on the question, "Who would I be if society never got its hands on me?" This inquiry propelled him to challenge societal norms and unlearn the imposed identities that hindered his self-discovery.
