The rise of the informal sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo since the 1980s highlights a disorganized national economy, with this sector now accounting for nearly 80% of economic activities. It plays a crucial role in providing jobs, education, food, and housing, yet it also leads to significant revenue loss for the state due to lack of taxation and leaves workers without social protection or access to banking. In response, the OHADA community law introduced a new legal framework in 2010 to better integrate the informal economy.
