Focusing on the response to the influx of refugees in Germany during 2015 and 2016, this book examines a Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) project rooted in Participatory Design and Socio-Informatics. It explores the development of assistive technologies for forced migrants and their supporters, emphasizing the design process. The work highlights feminist perspectives on care, revealing how care and participation influenced the sustainability of design outcomes while also complicating democratic engagement among participant groups. Preliminary lessons for interventionist HCI practices are discussed.
