Toy manufacturer David Walker picks up a pretty young hitchhiker named Judy Clayton in his elegant car. When he runs out of gas, Walker sets off on foot to a gas station. Upon his return, the young woman has vanished without a trace. A few days later, Inspector Denson visits Walker and informs him that Judy has been found murdered just a few meters from where David had his breakdown. Numerous clues suggest that Walker knew the woman for some time, although he denies it. During the investigation, there are more deaths, and a lipstick, a set of keys, and an instant camera play important roles.
