Tolkien regarded it as his most significant creation, and although it was published posthumously, it lays the groundwork for all his other narratives. The story encompasses the creation of the world and the First Age, serving as the ancient backdrop for characters in THE LORD OF THE RINGS, some of whom, like Elrond and Galadriel, participated in its events.
