The author, with a Latvian Jewish father and a Waldensian mother from Torre Pellice, recounts her painful journey into memory tracing her father and other Jews of Riga massacred in '41. At the end of her long search through archives, personal memories, and survivor stories, she finds a stone near the mass graves, and on the stone, the pebbles that are traditionally left on graves in Jewish custom.
