David Copperfield

Tome 2

Více o knize

With encouragement from his aunt Betsy, David begins his career as a solicitor and revisits the Peggotty family, discovering Peggotty happily married to Mr. Barkis. Accompanied by his charming school friend Steerforth, David realizes he has grown into his own man. In London, he falls for the beautiful but superficial Dora Spenlow. A tragedy strikes when Peggotty's husband dies, prompting David to return to the seaside, where he finds childhood friend Em'ly about to marry the devoted Ham. However, Em'ly is seduced by Steerforth, abandoning Ham at the altar in hopes of a better life, only to be left heartbroken. David marries Dora, who proves ill-suited for marriage. Meanwhile, the deceitful Uriah Heep schemes against the Strongs, Aunt Betsy, and the Micawbers. Ultimately, Tommy Traddles emerges as an unlikely hero. Dora's tragic death, Em'ly's rescue, and Ham's demise during a storm while trying to save Steerforth mark pivotal moments. After overcoming his sorrow, David realizes his true love is Agnes Wickfield, and they marry, with her becoming his guiding light. Initially, Dickens' characters may seem overly simplistic, and the narratives complex, but they ultimately reveal profound truths.
